Sandia National Lab to Host Early Market Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Safety, Codes and Standards Workshop
Geoffrey Bromaghim, National Hydrogen Association

Sandia National Laboratory will be hosting a hydrogen safety, codes and standards workshop on April 28–29, 2010. The event will focus on early market fuel cell applications such as forklifts and auxiliary power units (APUs).

On April 28th, the workshop will provide a forum for the leadership of code development organizations, OEMs, integrators and industrial gas companies to identify barriers to rapid deployment of early market fuel cell technologies. The goal of the meeting is to identify the role and scope of risk-informed codes and standards development to enable the rapid deployment of early market fuel cell applications.

The workshop will include panel discussions with representatives from Nuvera Fuel Cells, Plug Power, Air Products, NFPA, UL, CSA, and others. Interested parties may participate in the April 28th workshop through this dial-in number and webinar link: On April 29th, Sandia will then host a DOE workshop on vehicular tank safety. The goal for the tank safety workshop is to identify key issues, including R&D needs, regulations, codes and standards, and a path forward to ease the deployment of hydrogen storage tanks in early market fuel cell applications for vehicles. Interested parties may participate in the April 29th workshop through this dial-in number and webinar link: Additionally, a CSA Hydrogen Powered Industrial Truck (HPIT) 1 face-to-face meeting will be held in parallel with the DOE Tank Workshop at Sandia on April 29th.

Did you know that the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Safety Report reported on a similar DOT-DOE workshop held in December, 2009? DOE has made the proceedings to that meeting available online, and a link is provided in the previous Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Safety Report article.
